Nickie- very good advice-My daughter was a superb athlete too.
She started to compete in Triathalons while in the Navy and actually came in first in the womens division. I have photos of her repelling down a cliff, with a huge Navy Seal, holding the rope above her...I am so proud of her.

Cynthia,
I've also worked for the military (although not in a combat zone) when I was aged 22. In my experience, a young woman can only survive if she shows the guys she equals or even betters them. So you need to be able to fight dirty (I once used a hammer on a guy's head to keep him off me), hold your liquor and show them that you dare to do everything they do (which means jumping out of an airplane, sailing down building or rock formations, march for miles at an end with a heavy load on your back, ...) They guys respected me after a couple of weeks and I was even given my own personal 'body guard' of young officers who warned off other to harrass me.
