thats pretty much it. I guess the religious segment of society is afraid that certain moral values will be usurped in society. That concept does not bother me because what is going on in society does not affect what goes on in the microcosm of my family ( and what I permit within its boundries) and the values and morals I expouse and foster in my children. If the family base is strong, it is unlikely that "society" will have the power to usurp its influence on a developing child and adolescent. Most if not all religious people seem to have more faith in the power of society than the power of the family.

people have no faith in themselves and look to someone else's direction in
their lives, thus abrogate their freedom
they also fear taking responsibility and lay it on someone else.
why Christ? -- so lay everyting on that one figure.
