Hi Cee.  Thanks for directing me to this post.  Rudy must have been one fine dog!  We have a German shepherd/collie mix also.  His name is Austin and we bought him from the animal shelter, also.  He was very sick when we first brought him home.  We have loved him for about six years now.  It must have hurt a lot to see your lovely Rudy go down hill. I am sorry.  I have to admit, when I read the story about the little boy and "Fire' my eyes became watery.  Thanks for sharing all you shared and take care.

YP-
What a touching story! Yes, I believe we will meet again on the other side.  Animals are so pure; they contain pure love for us. A little Chihuahua can be as intimidating as a larger dog.  My laid back hunting dog, Pattie, lies in the same room with me facing the hallway and one day, when we had workmen going in and out of the house, she barred the way into the room where I was working. I never heard her sound so ferocious.

Thank you for sharing your memory.

Cee

We had many dogs & cats in Africa:Lucy a great LadyCat,Tiger the guarDog &
for some reason, a little Black sharp-eyed mongrel whose genes included those of a Chihuahua, my favorite. When I came to the US for studies in 1983, I missed him more than my family some days. He loved me so much that he would be my shadow. While I was gone, a milk-delivery truck ran him over. That scene seared my heart and mind for years ...maybe I will see this wonderful spirit, Rama by name, one day....Thanks for the memory!
