On reading this I feel pity for those poor people who voted Boy for a change in their conditions but now  the situation has worsened. Indeed he has done great harm to America

Offy there seems to be a great disagreement among Venezuelans
about Chávez. The poorer they are, they seem to love him. The rich and well educated hate him...perhaps because  of their own greed, they fear he will level the playing field at their expense.

Having spent
Many weeks in S. America I can honestly say their sad plight is not due to the US nor to this President. Anyone who believes Hugo has issues because he is quite insane. If he were a man of honor he would feed and clothe his own people. He lies and cheats them out of honest elections and a chance to utilize their own resources.

The amount of demonstrators in S. America never exceeded 25 hundred...and that is a small amount in contrast with the majority. I imagine you get your information from the Times and therein lies your misinformation.

All S. American countries are culture shock by American standards...I know I was never so happy to get back home to the good ole USA..

They helicopter across town now in many places to avoid kidnapping and etc

I go from Sacramento to LA and see the worsening, but when I go to Omaha I see how many cranksters and derelicts walk our streets here....I say it again, our stability is based on the fact that even with the growing disparity in incomes, we are so blessed with geography and resouces that we can support even our poorest without the formation of favellas.

yet.

Maj, It's called creeping poverty, then it just becomes a way of life,
more accepted, and the rich build their million dollar condos higher off the ground, rush into their air conditioned limo's to take them to the airport so they can fly their private jets to their vacation homes. They never enounter creeping poverty. If Bush doesn't see it he can pretend it doesn't exist.

What is the tipping point where a slum begins to characterize a whole city?
When does "the bad quarter"  become " the bad side of town", then the entire town becomes blighted? Rio de Janeiro, Washington DC,  RIverside CA...
