I was dubious about torching sr citizens, not the repub paradox.

Maj... that is a given...everybody with
half a brain knows that already. That's why this "anti big government" republican administration has created the biggest, most costly, dysfunctional government in US history,,,

If you say so!!!!
You know, the next articles we read are going to be about the plethora of government agencies and related contracts created after 9/11 about readiness and safety whihc are booondoggles and retreading of basic commonsense.

Maj, I do agree with your assessment about
what passes for writing on most blog sites and the motivations of the people behind those posts don't have much to do with the idea of "writing"...but that's better then robbing banks and setting old ladies on fire for fun;-)

oops sorry about typos

I was thinking specifically of you when I included the wiggle word "most"

But I stand by my statement. MOST of us who spend our energy on blogging can't spend it on artistically or monetarily satisfying work for "real" publication. Call me old fashionedlogs, but most of what appears on Blogit is pompous self-expression (mea culpa), heartfelt drivel, online socializing and rating gaming, with a leavening of blogs aimed at selling something. You are an exception.

It DID smoke you out!

Maj, I actually due consider myself a "serious" writer...
I have written a full manuscript right here on Blogit because I like the interface, and can write in chapters whenever I want, and it's all archived. I actually have submitted parts of it to some agents and writers I respect and have gotten good feed back. My problem is time, energy and focus. I have a whole other full time job and career that pays the bills. I keep telling myself when I retire I'll have the time and the energy to be a "published" author.

I am a "published" writer. I've done long format articles for some print and on-line publications related to the documentary film and media industry in which I work. I've contributed to academic books and journnals. I just enjoy writing in general and don't separate the idea of "blogging" from my attitude towards "writing".

I think that Blogit/BN has paralleled the Human Potential Movement of the

of the 60's...we went to Be-In's and Encounter Groups  to let it all hang out and reveal our inner beings, then found out there are some real downsides to that.

As I've always maintained, I think some people need this sort of socialization, while others don't. The money is not a factor to most. Most of us, if we were serious writers, would put this energy into writing and submitting to editors, not bloggers.

Thanks for the explanation Maj... I figured that's what you meant.
Yeah, boredom - that's why there are so few people still writing here on Blogit from the early days when it was the Blogging Network...

I'm sorry, I was doing my nails at work (just kidding)

Then you need to go sweep up more readers. Single readers and small fixed audiences are vulnerable and  in time we will bore you, too!

And "envelope" refers to old TV practice of sandwiching  recycled earlier materials into reminiscencs scenes, courtoom scenes, flashbacks of any kind. Classic is the two-part original Star Trek episode which used the pilot, which was rife with classic TV character acters (including Susan Oliver), Jeffrey Hunter as the captain, and this relative newcomer named Nimoy.....

Thanks Maj, I like knowing that you are "out there"
and I'd feel saddened if I started to bore you and you stopped reading my posts.

PS: recognize the term "envelopes"?

posted by majroj on March 11, 2007 at 7:18 PM | link to this | reply

Good, and I'll keep reading it.

One aspect of this "environment" is that once something is read, it's gone downstream and people will tend not to appreciate it, even if the are new readers.

1Timesoldier, I think you are being kind.
Perhaps I was a bit strident on your blog...but that's who I am and I'm not afraid to call a spade a spade (or shout out when the emperor has no clothes)...

Maj "envelope posts" that's the first time I've heard that expression.
For me, it doesn't matter if they "fall flat". I don't write here to compete with any body, even with my former self. I was in NYC to honor my boss. He died. I revisited my writing about him as much for myself as anything else.

"Envelope posts"
I tried reposts as a blog and it fell flat.
