I hope he doesn't get the nomination.
If he does, it will prove that the Republican party is no longer truly Conservative and they're willing to compromise core principles in order to present a candidate that will receive more of the Liberal vote. He has a good chance, davideskin. I doubt if he'll hold such a
substantial lead with so much time to go.  Despite his Iraq stance, McCain is a moderate with much the same values as the conservative base of the Republican party.  Given time, I think he can eat away at the lead, especially given Giuliani's liberal approach to some deep-felt conservative issues, like abortion.  But if Gingrich gets into it, it's wide open.  Gingrich is part of that no-holds-barred conservative group of Republicans that took Congress by storm in the 90's.  He's a master at political manipulation and people like him.  Personally, I like Hagel, but, unless some serious damage is done to the frontrunners, he'll never get within 20 points of the leaders.  Giuliani wins the nomination and, given the weakness of the Democratic Party, pulls enough conservative and moderate Democrats away from whoever (most likely Hillary) to win the general election.

I think...
His lead will last until debate time, then his opponents will eat his lunch.  He'll come out looking like a wolf in sheeps clothing (which he may or may not be) and that'll be that.  I think the Republicans are screwed for a viable 2008 candidate and we can all guess what might happen from there...
