Since writing this poem, I have made a point of putting more energy into mending and maintaining my relationship with my parents who are both 85 now. I wrote it from the space of imagining what I'd feel if they passed on, with things as they were. I cried, writing it, every time I re-read it. Finally, I took the emotional risks, contacted them and made a trip to see them. I've seen them a couple of times now, and we talk frequently by phone.
When I read this poem now, there are no tears.

I agree with the others,
this is heartbreaking. So very sad. The tree in my photo is called the Angel Oak Tree, located in St. John's Island, SC. It is near Charleston. Take care

Poignant. Heart-wrenching. Very good.

This poem reminds me of a hard lesson I learned about not taking someone for granted. It was a painful lesson.

Beautiful
I especially liked the bit about the leaf falling to the ground.
