Yes, I have done that at times too. When he starts, I just tell him "I'm hanging up now."
So he's very careful of his tone when he says these things....so he can try to tell me, when I get upset, that he didn't mean anything by it. He doesn't realize that the words alone speak for themselves, even if you're not using a controling manner.

I suppose it's a case of making the best of it for your son.
And the more peaceful you can keep it, the more peaceful you personally will be.
