solowriter, that is one of the points I am trying to get across, too
that irresponsible healing can be very costly and profoundly damaging, no matter the virtuous intent. The problem is, not everyone who wants to help, knows how or when to help.

Actually, although this all sounds very nice, there have been quite a few deaths and losses in my family that have been caused by helpers.

It's a fact, OneTimeAgain, that we can be more than one thing at a time,
and many of our actions have a bunch of different motivations behind them. I think it's healthy and insightful to be aware of both the positive and negative, and to give yourself credit where it's due! I think you wouldn't be asking the question if you were not, in fact, a healer.

Hi, FactorFiction!
My grandma told me I was special... My parents impressed upon me the idea I was not in the least special. What I needed to know was-- I am indeed special-- as is everyone, particularly to themselves!
Nothing you mention here precludes you being a healer.

ahhhh "dear" Ceil....
you have struck a cord with this one. I have spent a life time being a "healer". After much self analysis I have come to think of it in many ways.. a form of control, a form of self avoidance, a form of attention seeking behavior or self seeking in disguise. Are we being truly "healers" or are we being something else?

I never thought of the majority of people as healers.
It seems to me you are a special breed.

I would not mind being one myself, but it seems I spend most of my healing trying to attend to my own needs.
