Thank you, Troosha. Now, for my next feat, I am going to synopsize
Dubya's six years to make the memories more bearable...

Saul
What a delightful synopsis of the evening.... I almost feel like I didn't have to endure the 3 or 4 hours because you summed it all so perfectly.

Except for their constant film montage indulgences, it was quite enjoyable.

and the oscar goes to
I enjoyed this Academy Awards more then the past and I think it was because of Ellen, and the memorial section kept reminding me certain people had died. But was that just this past year?

Who knows, Pat B. You got to hand it to her, she really added something to
the awards ceremony that's been missing since Billy Crystal hosted -- I think it was really good humor. But I could be wrong...

Nice review. I fell asleep and missed the tribute, darnit!
I also enjoyed Ellen's touch -- especially the bit where she presented her screenplay to Martin Scorsese. Cool that he played along with the joke. It was a joke, wasn't it?

A pleasure, shadow-pen. What is great about the Academy Awards is that
it highlights and showcases what people in the industry consider the best. Sometimes this agrees with the box office, sometimes not.

Saul_relative - I could only watch a day later( In Africa) but by then the
main awards were well advertised and spoilt some of my viewing. Still , being an annual event, it was still good television and keeping up with whas good and what's not so good ( in the judges opinion, that is.) I know now what movies to budget for and what to miss.
Thanks for your visit to my site.

And they have made some rather strange choices over the years (at times).
I recall getting extremely annoyed with the Academy for picking 'Shakespeare In Love' over 'Saving Private Ryan'. I'm still annoyed by it.

Members of the Academy of Motion Pictures vote for the final nominees.
It begins with a selection of every eligible movie. If I'm not mistaken, a committee of indeterminate size (meaning: I have no idea how large a body) then selects the finalists, which the members of the Academy vote on. Members of the Academy are a varied lot, from producers to directors to actors to designers...

Good read. What a hullaballoo it all is.
Me and my son, who is a film buff and stayed up all night to watch the Oscars ceremony over here in Britain, were wondering this evening - do you know who casts the votes? He said it's the academy members - previous winners and directors and various old fogeys. is this right? And also, over the years they've made some strange choices haven't they? This year was unusual. More often they choose the opposite of what you expect.
