Pat_B - the Jehovah Witness folks are a prime example of living one's life
with their heads tucked firmly up there behinds.
Aside from having a slew of unique interpretations of the bible and buying into biblical prophecies to an extreme degree, they also feel that they are the only ones who have it right. Their dogma is absolute in that regard, everyone else is adhering to a "false" religion or set of beliefs. They must advance a notion of extreme exclusivity as a means of self justification because there are only 6 million of them worldwide. 6 mil of a species that now numbers over 6.5 billion puts the number of those going to heaven at less than 1/10th of a percent (Less than .09%) ..... according to them. They manage to speak of an all merciful and loving God in the same breath as spewing this nonsense, they also seem able to overlook that fact that JW denominations only exist in nations that are either European or descendent from those European nations. In other words, they are trying to tell us that everyone else in this world is screwed but them.

Presley - that's the thing of it - most concerns about the spiritual well
being of others comes from a self serving perspective.
If it is not the subtle subscription ploy of the religious institution manifesting itself as the disdain of others, it is the individuals attempting to convince themselves that they actually believe all of the religious goop and claptrap spilling from their own lips. When speaking of death; outside of immediate family members, who may in fact be coming from a position of sincere concern, who really cares what happens to others when they die?

A Jehovah's Witness quoted that number to me once.
This was the sixth or seventh visit and I had listened politely each time. She explained that is the limited number of saints who will actually reside in heaven. But for the rest of the chosen, earth will be returned to it's status as Eden, pleasant and harmonious. Sin will end. That's when I finally decided to stop being polite.
I told her she needed to be careful when she listened to my questions, because one of them might plant a seed of doubt. She might begin to question all the dogma of her church. It was more than the concept of a limited heavenly population. There was also my sense that her ideas put the creator in a mighty small and limited box. I said Biblical texts have been re-written on orders from King James and translated by any number of scholars into any number of languages. I pointed out that her copy of the gospel isn't necessarily what the lord said or what he meant when he explained things to mere mortals.
She didn't come along with the next JW missionaries to visit.

I'm not afraid to die, and I'm not afraid of where I'm going when I do pass on. I'm at peace in my heart despite what other people choose to say or what numbers they choose to throw around.

TVBlogger - I've always said of those who claim they are going to
heaven that they will ruin the neighbourhood.
How could a place filled with all of the insufferably obtuse religious fools we have met over our lifetimes possibly be described as a heaven? And we would have to suffer their company for eternity no less. ...if one is granted a pass into heaven; what happens if you say no thanx?

David1Spirit - we cannot forget those who might get into heaven in future
generations nor the martyrs of past.
This could mean that no matter what we do, there is no more room. We might be wasting our time trying to be good.

Ciel - that is the failing point of all exclusive paths to heaven
As the concept of selective eternal reward goes: Not everyone can get in which means that the ones we would like to spend eternity with will not all be there. Which in turn would not be our definition of heaven.

Gome...
Hell to me is repeating the same things over and over and over again...gee...did I just describe everyday life...going through the daily motions? Hmmm! My idea of heaven, Hell, and pergatory are a reflection of what I've read, seen, experienced, and have been told. I have a feeling I can adjust no matter where I end up. I'm a mutable person, but where ever it is I go...I'll be kicking and screaming all the way...I won't go down easy or peaceful...having way too much fun on this rollercoaster!

Hell will be one rockin' place
sounds like more fun than hanging out with 144,000 very uptight, self-righteous prigs.

That number 144,000 is mentioned a few times in the Book Of Revelations
But then again that number has been greatly reduced because of the number of those who "bought" their way into heaven thru indulgences in the Middle Ages.
I need to get a better job and save up for my retirement; or rather my "permanent retirement". You too gomedome, start selling on more than eBay; as time is running out....LOL
