Shams-i-Heartsong,
The bigger tragedy is the fact that America is suposed to be the voice of the rule of law! A deranged superpower threatens civilization!

People generally ignore atrocities unless they are directly
affected.
Put simply, many men don't get riled up about womens' rights because they aren't women, and therefore aren't affected directly. The same goes for other issues, I believe.
Empathy does not come easily to the vast majority of Americans, I'm afraid, and our society has placed the importance of learning it on a back burner in fear that teaching it will somehow be politically incorrect.

You CANNOT end terrorism by adding more terror to the world.

Well, Eddie Murphy was funny in "Coming to America," but America did not welcome his Royal Dance Team.
