You know, I know that a lot of people use the doctrine of original sin in Christianity - a doctrine unique to that faith - to beat up on adherents. (You know, to control them, destroy their self-confidence, manipulate them, and so forth.) But I find the idea that none of us is perfect very comforting. Yes, there are sociopaths in our midst, like Hitler and (in my opinion) Saddam Hussein (I thought Reagan was misguided in supporting him in his war against Iran). But, the rest of us, who are not manipulative, power-hungry psychopaths, deserve the chance to learn from our mistakes, and grow emotionally and in terms of doing better now that we know better.
