It's ironic you should write this today, of all days.
As I was thumbing thru the yellow  pages today, I noticed a HUGE ad for homeowners to have pesky "wildlife" removed from their new homesites for a "reasonable" rate.  I felt disgusted.

Timmy

Years ago, I wrote an article on the near extinction of Bald Eagles and the Maryland program to revive them  It all revolved around DDT and how the chemical made the egg shells too thin to survive.  They are in abundance now.

Here's why I share the story---the MOST profound thing that came out of that interview for me was this question/answer:

--What is the average lifespan of a bald eagle?

---We don't know.  We've never found one that died of natural causes.

How sad is that?

It would be tolerable if there was a "no interfering with wildlife" clause

No I think not! What ever happened to a cabin? Why do they have to take the land from the creatures...this stuff drives me insane!

This sort of thing drives me nuts, too.
But offhand, I don't really know what can be done. Bears, especially, are pretty lazy, and they will make themselves a nuisance if given the chance. Is it their fault? Not really. People don't really need 26,000 square foot McMansions in pristine wilderness, but money talks and that's that.

I've always loved the old cartoon that showed a big deer bending a hapless hunter over a stump, giving the hunter the hideous, Deliverance type treatment, with the caption, "Here's your deer meat, motherfucker!"

Seems to me that there should be some kind of law that if you build outside of the norm........you are on your own

It's certainly not fair to the animals - but is it stoppable?
