Ben, we were that cold a few weeks ago but the spell has broken

Aargh!
Fifty degrees sounds like a heat wave here in Chicagoland. It's in the single digits (above zero) here, at least last I looked at a weather station. But the good news is that the Sun is indeed returning; the days are lengthening, and there is hope that things will warm up in the Northern Hemisphere.
