Right....So we won't worry about the global environment anymore - it's just for the conspiracy nuts. Good one...

Yep, last month we were gonna die in our millions from SARS, weren't we? Now it ... nope, we made a teeny mistake there, we're gonna die in our millions of avian flu.

In Britain in recent years, " they" ( the usual supects, of course ) were predicting possibly ... well, millions of course, deaths from BSE -- Mad Cow Disease.

Now, in mediaeval times, the had more effective methods than ours ; see, they used to become Flagellants, and go around the streets flogging themselves bloody with chains, and bemoaning, bewailing, and be-every-bloody-thing-else their sins.

" Forgive me, Father for I have sinned! I have polluted the planet, Father!" Flog, flog.

Yep, we' come a long way from mediaeval times, 'cos we're so enlightened now, aren't we?

Now, where did I put that chain?

It's a very selective list you've thrown together. There are plenty of environmental disasters that have proven to be real. In the last hundred years we have largely denuded the world of its forests, simplified the eco-system, and created breeding grounds for diseases such as Ebola and AIDS. We have also cut a swathe through a number of endangered species.

The planet is going to have a very difficult next hundred years.

Troosha.....
You missed my point completely......

We have an equal number of people claiming global warming is going to bring about a catastrophe and also saying that global earming is not going to create a catastrophe. How did you choose to pick the side saying yes?   By applying the Scientific Method?   Our by being swayed by the media and selective coverage of the "yes" side???  I admited my position could be wrong.   Could you?  I want the answers found by using the same methodology that has allow this country to excel in science and technology.....why is everyone afraid to look at both sides?

I think it doesn't matter what we or scientist think...Mother Nature will do what she wants. There is no amount of money that can buy any type of change from her. She is her own force. I do however frown on the preaching of fear on the subject and I am very wary of those who ask for money...it's too agenda ridden!

Troosha,
The issue is not the validity of science! The issue is the ability of people to understand competent science! America is the only nation on this Planet in a position to make the difference. People waiting around for Hilliary Clinton to become President is a leap backwards!

Corbin__Dallas,
What? You criticizing the hysteria of "spin"! You just omitted a few! Remember, WMD, Evil Dictator, Mushroom Cloud, Greeted as Liberators, just a few, there are others! There are a lot of people taking a lot of short cuts in this FOX News world! Create hysteria and do nothing before you debate the issues in a mature forum! FOX, CNN, MSNBC, Al Jazeera, et al all have one motive: get paid and pay these high priced talking heads!

And you believe that there is a consensus of opinion?

Sometimes the agenda is as overt as “watch our channel” or “buy or newspaper” and yes,,, some of the predications of the past were far fetched.  More current predictions, however, (such as global warming) are far more scientifically grounded.  To ignore them based on the premise that past perditions never came to fruition would be foolish.
