Saul

May I quote myself? "... there are several aspects to being shocked. One is that the ‘shocking’ event produces horror and revulsion in us... But another aspect of shock is typically its element of surprise..."

A body in the dumpster might be horrifying, but it would certainly not surprise me in the least...

Some ideas that reach actuality are too horrifying to even imagine --
unless you're Wes Craven or Stephen King.  Still, the baby in the microwave is pure sociopathy at work...

It's inevitable, mobedder. Unfortunately...

good post - the horrors of life just get worse
that finding a body in a dumpster wouldn't shock me - but the lady that put her baby in the microwave did.

You've made a point...and it's food for thought.
Doesn't it seem if we all didn't become a bit numb and desensitized to all the negative input we receive on news reports, we'd probably all be sitting in the middle of a room somewhere, cross-legged, going 'buh, buh, buh' as we flipped our bottom lip with the tip of our forefinger? Maybe we all become a bit numb over time, sadly.
