Overweening. A word I am familiar with, and I would use it thusly:
"Our President has displayed overweening arrogance in overthrowing a sovereignly elscted leader in Iraq, something his own father was smart enough to stop short of, and therefore committed our troops to yet another unwinnable messy land war". Remember Vietnam or were you somewhere else, like he was, hiding out in the Alabama National Guard, drinking bourbon with his rich buddies.
