As depressing as it sounds...
I try to read the obituary column, and if there are any recent celebrity deaths, that gives me sufficient motivation to work on my blog Thanks, Dad. (I've had people tell me that this is the longest-running blog on Blogit; older blogs are not updated with nearly the frequency that I've managed over the past few years. There are people who were with Blogit when it was in beta testing in 2002, that haven't updated their blogs literally in years. I don't even know if they subscribe anymore, now that The Blogging Network changed its name to Blogit and upped the subscription prices through the roof.)

That's a good idea Pat. It's better than scolding myself.

I let my adult self talk to my inner child in loving reassurance. She says:
You will be so happy when you've completed this task, so proud of yourself. And even if you don't get everything done, you'll feel so much better about it that tomorrow you'll be eager to get back at it. I love you. :)

What do you use as rewards?

I don't trick myself because I know it's only a trick and I don't fall for it. It's like setting a clock ten minutes fast. I know I have ten extra minutes, so it defeats the purpose. I simply do it or don't and regret it later.

I use the carrot and the stick
I tell myself I can have X if I finish Y.
