Charlie sounds like he was a wonderful teacher..I can remember having one professor who had bad breathe and insisted upon tallking very close...One day he was talking so close to me I darn near passed out. He was a great teacher, but not one you want to get that close to...

My thanks to everyone who has responded here--
my time online has been much curtailed of late, and I don't spend as much time expressing my appreciation for your comments as would be nice, but I do in fact very much appreciate every comment and hello!  My response is, instead, to click on your name and visit your blogs, and possily leave a comment there...  or a flower, or something...

Ariel, in my school experience, the least equipped to teach

were the psychology and education professors.  I thought that was kind of odd.

One wonders what the hell some folks are doing in universities, teaching anything ; especially history!

History can easily be made moving, fascinating, funny, if one only takes the trouble.

I was quite flattered really, when the other day I received a comment on one of my historical posts that the blogger was sure that I'm a retired history prof! Vey nice perception of one who left school at 14 with no qualifications.

It's no wonder that so many people find history so boring and irrelevant!

Jeremy, Sigmund was in WWII.

I have googled the name, and apparently, it is not an unusual name, and is associated with aristocratic Austrian and German families. Most of the references I found were actually in German, which I don't speak, except for danke shein and gesundheit...

I used to think it was a requirement to be a bit "off center" to teach college classes. My favorite one always marched in playing a recorder and reminding us all "Carpe Diem"!

Great reminescenses. I went to college in the '60s. Man, did I have some weirdo professors. I thought they were great. At the time, I thought they actually knew something. MoonSpirit
