Oh, I'm sorry. I missed the point.
I was a working poor person for many years, then I escaped to follow my passion(s) and the money is just the bonus for doing what you love. And when you're passionate about what you do for money, money passionately seeks you!

old oily smelling timbers! I was there! No, really................
your writing is very entertaining and your imagery (is that a word?) is great! Good job. Hey, because of your screen-name has anyone asked.....is it because you left the real world to become a writer or otherwise? No....that was dead man walking? The movie about the guy on death row? I'm so confused.

Blogflogger - the good stuff is in the small record shops or on tap
at some obscure pub. My magazine will be a forward looking, localized version of the behemoths that dominate the niche.

Here's hoping you can keep your soul and make money, too, Freeman
Play on and I hope you find your niche, which is definitely not for the Busch drinkers of the world. More like a good MacNaughton's or Wild Turkey drinker, not that Coors or Busch pap.

Strat - I'm approaching the whole project with a win-win mentality and only
afterwards have I found out Steven Covey (of 7 Habits fame) endorses such an outlook. Money is grand but the journey is important too.

Your friend has a very good point.
On the other hand, part of being master of your domain is the ability to let go, for a handsome profit, to move onto other challenges. I doubt Linus's ambition was to sell out to Anheuser Busch, but I also bet he didn't want to work for free, either.
There's nothing wrong at looking at the business end of your dreams. That end is just as important, if not moreso, than making those dreams realities. The trick is to make your vision reality without having to sacrifice the integrity of it for a few financing points.
