Hi Helen
In fact I traced you from Avant's comment page, and I am happy, immensely pleased at my coincident find. It's rare to see such flowing writing style as yours. The icing on the cake was: "A butterfly waves its wing in Brazil and causes a sandstorm in Africa", making me bask at the beauty of the imagery, or profundity because, yes, it is true.

Predestination would be one explanation for 'coincidence'
not being coincidental-- but not the only one.  The effect of apparent coincidence could be an effect of people-- and other energies-- being attracted together for reasons of karmic connectededness, or shared interests or other common ground...

Very interesting ponderings.
Personally, I do not believe in pre-destination in ANY way.  Therefore, I guess coincidences are just that--coincidences.  However, I found it quite humorous to think about your suggesting that we would be brave enough to call upon coincidences. . , kind of follow them through.  Yes, I think that would lead to a fist-full of trouble and embarrassment.

Perhaps 'coincidence' has something in common with 'magic'
both being words we use for things we don't have enough information to see how they work.

Hmmm! In my experience, readings (i.e. Tarot) are usually fairy general, so they can be applicable to just about anything if you stretch your mind far enough. Selling your house is pretty specific, though! Neat that it worked out like that! I don't know! I'm not convinced that things like that work, but I'm not entirely convinced that they don't, either (HA! Big help that is!) Maybe it was just really, really time for you to move!

Life is sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. The pieces fit but we don't
the picture on the box to guide us.

Nice one! There is a method to the madness. Our minds can scarcely comprehend it sometimes, and at others we are left scratching our heads completely. Thank you.

Can you explain that when an old sceptic like me had a tarot

reading last year it was all true to the point of scaring me silly. Even things I laughed at came true by the end of the year.

ie, selling our house... never were we going to sell but it's out of our hands now and on the market!

Snort!
Ah, Ariel70, you crack me up! If yer not the man to be sheddin a little light on this here subject, then I don't know who is:

What the blazes are floating widgets and what were they doing in my beer cans in Ireland?! The side of the can said, "Warning! Contains floating widget!" So I thought "Gee whizzers! They put Piranhas in the beer in Ireland?!" Surprised was I when my nose wasn't bitten off by a pair of fishy teeth, but when a white plastic doohickey floated, indeed, around inside.

By the way, we like Kilkenny Beer!

Give my regards to yourself when you see him!

Ger owra dat wit yer no such thing as coincidence! Whhhy, only yesterday, I'm going along O'Connell Street, and don't I see meself on the udder side of the road, drinking a Guinness, and yer man sez ter me " Is it yerself Terry, or someone else entirely?"

Yer see mavourneen, he was thinkin' dat it was me, an' wasn't I after thinkin' dat it was him, but when we had the craic, it was neither of us.

Now wasn't that a coincidence, I'm askin' yer?

I have the suspicion that you have a pretty good feel for that universal language! Thanks for your welcome. Yes, I got the feeling that we might think along the same lines, too.

That was, indeed, a wall that I'd hit upon, because I do not believe that everything is pre-ordained. But I do think that we are meant to go in certain directions or to do certain things. Not that we HAVE to, but because it's for our own good (bleah. I sound like a mother. Well, that's what having kids does for ya). In other words: coincidences could also be called "suggestions" from the universe. "Well, you could go left, but you'll be more enlightened if you go to the right, where you just saw an old lady wearing one of your mother's home-made shawls." -Choke- Or something similar. From this point, it all goes kinda gray.

Hi Helen...I don't believe in coincidences...I see it as synchronicity...

It's the universe subtly nudging us to maybe a different awareness.  I see synchronicity in my life everyday.  Excellent post and thank you for all your visits to my blog. I'm glad you joined our community and look forward to more of your posts.  I believe we think alike!

Interesting...
But if there are no coincidences is everything pre-ordained?
