Free Will is consistent with Omniscience
Free will is worked out in the setting of time and space.  God is beyond time and space, knows the end with the beginning, the results of all our decisions and deeds, but has chosen not dictate them.  Instead, he humbles Himself to our context and, when asked in prayer, responds within that context, being part of the drama only upon request.

further,
reading thru the comments here, it seems that quite a few people here are angry with someone or something, yet seem quite content to ascribe these acerbic emotions to an unseen, unknown entity, as opposed to the root physical entity that is responsible. Which to me is very interesting.

God does not "need" to be worshipped

He knows that when human beings worship him, it places them in the most optimal position to receive from Him and understand Him, because only from a position from true heartfelt worship can you connect to a being who is truly "God." How else could you approach such a being other than with total adoration and awe and yet still understand Him and know him? There is a scripture that says God can only be worshipped in "spirt and truth".

it is not an ego thing with God.

God is infinitely egotistical

maybe a little insecure.

created the angels; some worshipped him; some didn't

it had to be a quite a blow when some didn't

so he created people. now, people are supposed to be higher than the angels.

so here's the gist of the matter -- angels are servants running all around to do god's bidding -- i guess many had no problem with being god's slaves.

then humans enter the picture -- the idea is that humans have free will and with that can choose whether to cow tow to god and then end up just lying around on a glass sea for all eternity repeating one word over and over again, in threes, of course:  "holy, holy, holy" -- one holy for the father, one holy for the son, one holy for the holy ghost.

those special few, with their holy's ringing throughout the universe for all ages, and their harps (who teaches them to play?), will feed god's infinite ego for all eternity, and the angels who are left (everyone else goes to hell or limbo or purgatory) will eternally run to a fro across eternity to infinitely serve this ultimate ego.

He created us so that he had someone to rule over
It's one of his greatest needs . . . and obvious faults.

He doesn't need us.  He only needs his faithful dog.

I will have to look up the book I am currently reading

and see if you have read it. I don't believe it all myself, since it is theology as per Roman Catholicism. But there are a few interesting explanations of thing I always found absurd.

I don't find the idea of God as an artist insulting at all.

FF
An artist can envision what it will look like, but the actual out come can not be seen until it is finished.  With the Biblical idea of God, he can already see the outcome.  He can fully envision it already.

Who does he have to share it with?  An artist can share he/her vision with so many others who can appreciate.  If we are art, then we are art for God and only God, since there are no other beings at that level who should be able to appreciate, and such art is the most meaningless of art there can be.

Comparing the Biblical idea of God to an artist is very much insulting towards artists.

Why does an artist create art?
Why bother when he already envisions how it will look when he is finished? You are right, the artist should just sit on his hands. It would be much more enjoyable for him to do nothing and produce nothing.
