The mess COULDN'T have been THAT bad. . . , to cause the cat to be banished outside (when it gets colder)! Look on the bright side. . , it could be worse. . , you could have dogs instead.

Our cats hide
when it gets cold, in case we have the wild idea that they have no place in our little piece of domesticity.

Julia, our cat likes to spend most of her time outside

I can relate--
they are nocturnal creatures after all! My cata are spending their first winter indoors (I moved them from CA to MT) and they have all this pent up energy that comes out at night, when we humans wish to sleep. They sniffed that cold air once and that was it, they're not going out 'till Spring! ;-)
