Go to What Country Am I In?Add a commentGo to Border Patrolmen Go To Prison

America, Nautikos, lost her way years ago in the blurry backlash of the
doomsday Cold War years, in the 'eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die' days of the self-gratifying 70's and 80's.  Now it's conservative overcompensation time.  A happy medium is possible, but elusive.  This border episode is simply disgusting...

Thanks, Justi. Sadly, you're probably right. Too many politicians talking
about what needs to be done and not enough of them doing what needs to be done...

thanks, Rose. It seems that politics has clouded the issue in this case.
According to the backroom maneuverings of Bush and his Canadian and Mexican counterparts, a North American Union has been agreed to, although the U.S. Congress has not agreed to it, nor were the American people privy to the information or the agreement.  Go to Lou Dobbs website and check it out.  All this political posturing about the border seems to be about legally moot.  And if it is, and this seems to be the premise that Bush is operating under, he really needs to be impeached for overstepping his presidential authority.

Saul
I have been following this whole affair pretty well from the time Lou Dobbs first brought it up on CNN, and I was sure that, in the end, 'real' justice rather than 'legalisms' would prevail. I was wrong. Then I was convinced that a nation-wide storm of protest would make the AG see the error of his ways. I was wrong. Finally I hoped that President Bush would do the honorable thing and pardon these two men. I was wrong again! Now I think of this case as symbolic of the sad fact that America is losing her way, and I know I am right in that!

This is a shame. One of many to come I fear that relates to all this mess of drugs and the border..... Good post.

I signed a grassroots petition about this

to try to get them pardoned.

But if this is the way our govt wants to act, then let's not waste money on border patrols or even worry about having a border.  Let everyone in, we might even put up special signs "bring your drugs, your weapons and your bombs, and welcome to America".  We are worrying about the wrong things ... this country's security should be our number one concern.  It isn't.  I'm surprised the ACLU didn't have any part in this poor drug trafficker's case, like getting him to sue for discrimination or something.  Oops, missed they that one.  Or maybe I shouldn't say that,  they might read this and go ahead and do it.
