No offense taken. It's the honesty that counts.

Maybe, "Actions speak louder than the best of intentions."

Words in my book are still actions.  I've heard people say things like, "I meant to tell him what a good job he's doing but . . ."

Telling would have been an action.

I dislike that expression.  Perhaps it could be replaced by “actions speak louder than words”.
