Did your Mom and Dad fight often??  Maybe, after arguments, she threw your dad outside and he made a makeshift bed in the trunk of his car??  LOL  This would explain all the throw pillows.

It's strange how certain fabrics hold to scents.  I love when my mom offers me her old throws or lap blankets, because they always smell like her.  She's worn the perfume Shalimar (sp?) for so many years that I instantly recognize it on anyone!  I don't have too many throw pillows.  I have more blankets!

You can't throw them in the trash. They take up too much space. I usually store them in the shed, and then take them to the dump.

I wonder why he did have all those pillows in the trunk..how odd~

I have lots of toss pillows, I think I collect them or they collect me. Some I dearly love and some are so pretty I can't part with so I switch em out every once in a while...

oh, and i forgot to mention, i don't throw the throws but chico sure does!
he has three throw pillows aside from his bed cushion and when he gets in a goofy mood, look out!  he buries his nose under them and vaults them into the air, clearly taking delight when they go far.  he also has a ball with a hole in it so you can put treats inside and rather than just bring the ball to me as i ask so i can load it with cookies, he throws it from the other side of the room.  he has very good aim and the ball rolls right up and stops at my feet.  it's quite remarkable.

Maybe your dad kept them out of sentimentality, just not enough to keep
them in the house.  By the way, I do what's obvious with old throw pillows -- I "throw" them away...

a throw pillow that i made for my mom in 1965 continues to sit on the
couch.  i look forward to the day i get it back, i can't believe the thing still lives, and if i get it back, it will live forever.  or at least long enough for a descendant in the family to write a funny blog about their crazy aunt that has this sad maroon throw pillow that's missing two of its tassles.
