Bravo
I also speak those words to a country that has a death ear for freedom and the pride of what our country once stood for.

an after thought something i ran across today while doing my job over here
this is taken from an acticle from below, if you want to read the full story it is quite interesting. they are views from different places in the world.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/01/12/news/react.php
An Arab diplomat based in Egypt, who spoke in return for anonymity, said: "The other side of the coin is the immediate departure of American troops will leave such a vacuum in power, it will have two results — Iran will fill the vacuum where it can, and the whole country will explode. It will be worse than a civil war. If the Americans leave immediately, Iran will be the winner."
Or, as John Howard, the Australian prime minister and a close ally of Bush's, put it: "You can't sort of have a middle position on this. You can't be sort of against what the president is trying to do and yet be in favor of defeating the terrorists in Iraq. You have to understand that if America, the most powerful country in the world, our strongest ally, is defeated in Iraq or retreats in circumstances of defeat in Iraq, that would be the greatest propaganda victory the terrorists could ever win."

Thank you for you support it means a lot to us. And you are right soldiers are trained to listen and do what were are told but it does not infringe on our beliefs, our view of right and wrong. And sometimes in war things happen that we normally view as wrong, but this is war and the fight we wage is very unconventionly compared to anything we have ever fought before. Thank you once agin for your support and being able to understand my words. Just like you I am not trying to argue rights and wrongs.

I do see both sides of the both side of the story. Thing is people always look to the beginning of this war, and whether it was wrong or right doesn’t matter any more because we are here and nothing will change that. Yes Saddam being executed on the first day of Eid was a mistake but not one the Americans made, but the execution its self was not, that was a decision the Iraqi people made and one you, me or anyone else can’t change. I don’t understand the real reason for it and probably never will.
This story has yet to begin to unfold. I look at things in a bigger picture. Sadam has entered history as a tyrant and the first leader of a country to be formally executed. Think of the wake that will cause. I see that the path we walk on is very narrow and slick but it must be one we continue to walk. I see your point but do not accept it, and know that you do not accept mine. That is what we are fight for over here. Iraqi’s right to do the same.
Thank you Friend.

Hi Poetic Soldier
Your point of view is undoubtedly more valid than most of ours, having been there. It's great that some good is coming out of the war despite the bloodshed. I'm sure all the soldiers there are well-meaning and doing a great job. They deserve massive respect. On the other side, however, soldiers are trained to do what they are told. It doesn't always follow that they are being told to do the right things. I won't comment on my view as to the war or whether it is right or wrong, here, because I want to support you and applaud you for what you are doing and for writing about it so convincingly.

Let me clarify something
To those who misunderstand my words they are not of protest, they are not words of ageist. They are words from a first person point of view. I see the truth of what is happening every day as I am here. I know all that is put out in the media and what doesn’t make it, because it is my job. I work with Iraqi’s everyday, they are my interpreters, they tell a different story far more horrific then media would even begin to touch. While mainstream media disagrees with all most everything that is happening here, I can proudly tell you otherwise. To see the face of Kurd, whom lived through Saddam’s rule and lost many friends and family because of him, be overjoyed when the late dictator was executed you know that there is more to the story. If we were to leave right now with things the way they are at the moment, think about 10 maybe 20 years, and then tell me if sending more troops is wrong.
I’ll give you a taste of what I see. My little girl who would just be starting life afraid because we don’t know what ‘They’ are going to do next, or for that matter when. this is the world I see if things are left how they are. With that I am willing to fight not for myself but for you and all un-able and/or un-willing. I will agree with one thing sending more troops is going to do one of to things finish what was started or just end it. What ever the outcome, it will not be decided by Americans it will be decided by Iraqi’s and the soldiers willing to fight. Thus I say support your troops not propaganda.

the hero who will realise the reason for all these wars
dont listen to your media which always showing one side .....sadam didnot kill more than who is killed now under USA presence ...the cause of the problems in middle east is accomulated frustration and anger from who claim that they are free and cevilised .....look deeply in the things and stop following the media and your leaders blindly AWAKE UP and say no for who is sending more 21500.soldiers
the aim is not to make peace this is the GREED of the politicions ...be humanbeing and say no for the unfairness ...arab people love you so love them
why the interference with other countries DO YOU BELIEVE THAT ITIS TO HELP THEM ...DONT BELIEVE FRIENDS ALWAYS SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH
GOOD THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE AWAKE NOW THEY STARTED TO REALISE THAT THEIR POLICY IS THE ONE BEHIND THEIR SUFFER ...THANKS

Poetic_Soldier, Like Sandyra, I am a boomer who lived through the Vietnam experience. I see things much differently now. While I deplore violence, I have lost my naivete and simpleminded thinking about how one should deal with terrorists and thugs. They don't think or act like 'normal' people think or act. You cannot expect them to change by treating them with kindness - even if treating them with kindness would eventually work and they would eventually change (not), they wreak too much havoc, too much death, destruction and suffering in the interim. The toll is too great. MoonSpirit

Amen
I not only support our troops, I support what they are doing over there. Anywhere, for that matter. I haven't always felt this way, because I am a Baby Boomer from the days of Vietnam.
But I was living near the WTC when the towers fell. I knew the copilot of the second plane to hit the towers. Many, many stories.
Something changed in me. If you weren't there, you can empathize and imagine, but you can't really KNOW how it felt to be there. And believe me, New Yorkers wanted to kick some ass.
Not only have we done that, but we have eliminated a butcher. Think if we had been able to hang Hitler before he killed 6 million Jews. Saddam had only killed about 2 million of his own people before he faced justice.

this is something that has been on my mind for awhile now.
i am sorry if this offends anyone. but i believe that if everyone put as much energy into protesting as they did thanking a soldier, US soldiers would get more out of it. i know this has a very angry tone as it should i for one am getting sick of the media's control of the minds of the people.
