Superman: I'm tired of him, too. He's a wet blanket.

Star Wars: Yeah, the recent 3 flicks were real disappointments. While they were visually gorgeous, the characters and story had lost the depth that the original 3 movies had. And I just couldn't stand JarJar Binks!

Silver Surfer: I sure hope they approach this one right! The temptation to concentrate more on the special effects than the character himself might be too great! In any case, I HAVE TO SEE IT WHEN IT COMES OUT!

No, I'm not frustrated by the fact that my parents wouldn't buy me any comic books when I was a kid (except when the tonsils came out). ...Well, maybe a little bit...

*SNIFF* It's a dream come true! Hope it's not Jolie, though. She's already pegged as Lara Croft in my mind.

There's a ton of legitimate academic info out there concerning our society's perceptions of heroes as times change. However, like you did here, I'd rather analyze it myself. More fun.

As a kid I loved all the classic super heroes, but as I matured, I discovered I liked Superman less and less. He's too big, too powerful, too larger-than-life. Superman saves the world waves at the adoring masses and flies away until the next major catastrophe. Give me a Batman or a Spiderman, the heroes who stop the down-to-earth crimes like liquor store robberies and muggings. I want heroes I could identify with in situations "truer to life." Keep your strange visitors from another planet. Give me the grit of the back alleys and mean streets of the city.

I loved Star Wars as a kid, but it too lost its luster as I grew up. Once I realized it takes much more than cutting edge special effects to make a great movie, the movies simply weren't the same.

And speaking of the Silver Surfer, he's featured in the next Fantastic 4 movie due later this year. I saw the teaser trailer and it looks pretty good. The Silver Surfer looks like he's made of mercury and what not like the "evil" terminator from number III.

Wonder Woman is due to come out in 2007
The script is currently being written.  Bullock and Jolie are considered the leading candidates for the role.

Thanks! Did you collect white pebbles as a kid, too (just in case you got lost like Hansel and Gretal)? I stopped when I finally realized how many I needed just to make a trail a few meters long!

My favorites remain, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs,
Hansel and Gretal, and anything written by Hans Christian Anderson! Those were the fairy tales of my childhood and I still can read them with joy! Enjoyed my visit and like your style of writing! faholo
