arGee - yes it does make my point very well
When a person holding such responsibilities affords someone such trust based on their inherent honesty, it is a true personal accolade. At least that is how I view a practical vote of confidence from one's captain or commander.

After I received my Navy Commission, Gome...

I made it a point to be truthful without regard to any consequences to myself. The result of this policy was that when the chips were down (and they were from time to time as a submariner during the cold war), the Old Man came directly to me for answers, because he knew he would get it straight, period.

This is a narrowly focused example, but I think it makes your point very well.

SoloWriter - I may in fact be guilty of overcomplicating a very simple

message and one that I know you agree with. The message is as follows:

"If someone is going to tell others how to live their lives, they should be trying to live that way themselves" ......... far too many people only know how to do the "telling" part.

Talion - I could have not said it better myself . . . . >>>
Living by example is the only right we have in attempting to influence the beliefs of others, all else is superficial and for some people, entirely unecessary. If we cannot adhere to this single ideal eventually, we have no future as a species. If an individual cannot even believe their own bullshit . . . why would anyone else believe it?

gomedome
I'm not from Missouri, but often you have to show me. If someone literally practices what he/she preaches, I'm willing to listen. Give me real world examples of why a particular line of thought is best. I don't expect perfection from anyone, including myself, but I can't stand hypocrisy.

MountainClimber56 - whenever challenged with a situation where the right

course of action may not be apparent, I try to run those words through my head.

"try to" being the operative phrase. ....smart fellow that Jesus........ Let me wish you a Happy New Year as well.

Gomedome, that is why Jesus taught, "Do unto others, as you
would have them do unto you!"   Happy New Year 2007!
