- Go to How Do I Know If I'm Meditating?
Faholo, the school of meditation I went to also called it centering,
usually mentioned along with grounding, as I have written about in other items in this blog--they are a ways back, but you can find them in the Contents blog, if you're inclined to check them out. I always appreciate the feedback from others who know about such things, who often have an interesting addition or adjustment to suggest, so if you do read them, I hope you will comment!
The challenge here was to put into words what someone would understand who has never been interested in this sort of thing enough to pick up a vocabulary, and it got me thinking about what the actual sensations of meditation are, or at least, how I have experienced them personally, and how I could describe them.

Hi Ceil, thanks for sharing this post!
What you are experiencing is a form of meditation often referred to as Centering! It is different from Centering Prayer or Prayer, which leads to meditation related to God and things of a Spiritual nature. Spiritual meditation is not a form of an altered state such as you described. Make sure your dad understands what you mean by meditating because he may be thinking about it from a different frame of reference than you are. Take care, and good luck with helping your dad!

For me it is prayer, then enhanced clearness…
….a stillness within, during which I move everything out of the way….over into the corner….and then bring things out, one by one, dealing with them, extinguishing them, and then soaring free.

at times i have set a subconscious wheel of thought going with prayer. i come to consciously and think 'who was that conversation', and an hour has passed.
thanks for writing this.
