Presley - that is a very nice thing to say - and I feel likewise
You describe what is ultimately one of the greatest values of this type of membership site. Being exposed to differing perspectives should offer some insight as to how others think and possibly influence the development of our own perspectives. Reading how some folks look at things can be an education in itself.

Gomedome

Good point you made to me in your comment.  I admit, I've read the gossipy headlines and clicked knowing good and well what I was about to read was juvenile!  BUT!  I've also been a victim of the "Mighty False Headlines!"  You know the ones!  The headline looks interesting, but the post ends up being completely unrelated to the juvenile topic!

Gomedome, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you that I thoroughly enjoy coversing with you.  Though we differ in the fact that you are man and I am woman, though we differ in our some of our perceptions on certain topics, and though we come from different worlds I just really like talking with you.  I really enjoy your blogging company.  I just wanted you to know that!

Talion - I can in all honesty claim to have adhered to that policy:

"if you don't have anything nice to say, you are better saying nothing"

That is in terms of leaving comments or addressing a blog author in regards to an opinion they have posted. Most times if the opinion is so out to lunch, the conclusion becomes "what's the point" . . as in what's the point of asking for clarification or attempting dialogue with someone who could right such an opinion in the first place?

Presley - I try to treat others as I would want to be treated but there are

some folks out there that can't quite grasp that simple concept.

I do know what you mean about some of the petty stuff we have seen on this site, as an uninvolved observer it sometimes seems quite juvenile. . . . but then we have to remind ourselves what propels our interest to read about it in the first place? The answer to why we read it is also why a good deal of it exists.

I'm all for expressing opinions, but if I don't have anything nice to say, I say nothing. During my time here, I've discovered if you tell a damn fool what a damn fool he/she is, all you get is a damn fool that's mad at you. Who needs that?

My policies are quite simple.  I treat others the way I want to be treated.  I try not to profess "complete" knowledge on any topic.  Instead, I put a bit of my perspective out there hoping to incite enough interest that when someone questions me in my comments section I can further explain my point of view.  I haven't been attacked or bad mouthed to my knowledge.  When and if the time comes I hope I can be mature about the situation and argue effectively without causing an all out war as we experienced prior to the holidays.  There's really only one thing that pisses me off enough to send me to my "dark place" and that is when a person uses another bloggers name in their posts as amo.  You know the ones..."oh, I'm over it, but it was so and so's fault.  And I just want to forget it but what so and so did was not my fault."  That crap is ridiculous!

I certainly must agree with you, Gome...

On the humility one is forced to learn with the passing of time. Just this morning, for instance, my son explained to me why I really didn't know as much about computers as I thought I did. And guess what – he was right!

Nevertheless, don't sell your knowledge short. You have earned the right to express an informed opinion.

Xeno-x - yeah but it's only fun until someone gets hurt
I have admittedly derived some entertainment from a few of my wannabe detractors.

arGee - you are being too kind but I do appreciate the sentiment
It is very simple to me, as I learn more in any field of endeavor, I realize just how much more there is to know. Reading through your book is a perfect example. Where at one time I thought that I had a grasp of the science involved pertaining to the basic interactions within our environment, I realize now just how ignorant I am.

but i do love some of the exchanges you get into.

Why should you concede, Gome

That you know no more than another person? I have been reading your material for quite some time, and I will freely concede that you know quite a bit more about quite a number of things than does the typical writer on Blogit, or anywhere else for that matter.

(You even taught me a thing or two, and I think I know a lot!)
