Nothing turns me on more than a nice, new, shiny cut-off valve.
In answer to your question. . , I'm one of those folk who learns from my mistakes. And, it irritates me. . , those who don't learn from their mistakes.

Sometimes I have to make the same mistake several times in a row before I learn anything.
Then again, there are times when I learn from other people's mistakes the first time they make one!

Anyone who says he doesn't make mistakes is in denial. I've made many, many mistakes. I still do on a regular basis. The key is to learn to forgive yourself for not being perfect. It's a hard thing to learn if you're compulsive, as I am.
I'd have tried to get that valve out myself and broke it off in the wall. I did it with the washer and had to call a guy out. We exchanged work and it turned out okay.
