I Agree with Bel

I love it that you're asking these questions.  I'm glad to not see a bunch of posts blaming America as well.  Their issues began long before America ever was.  They brought their hate to the Cole and the towers twice.  Other places too, like you mentioned.

One thing I ask is who in America doesn't remember Iraq turning away the inspectors looking for weapons of mass destrution??  For over a YEAR they were truned away or limited in where they were allowed to look.

Here's the deal.  If I was going to get in trouble for having tennis shoes in my house and you told me you were going to come over and make sure I don't have any... what the heck am I going to do??  Give myself time to hide them if you're dumb enough to allow me; get rid of them, burry them in the back yard or have my neighbor watch them.

Then we go in there and people here say "why are we there? they didn't have wmd, WE LOOKED"  We didn't look... we offered them a year to move and hide them.  DUH.

justi - i think the only way is to be the bigger person and try to see it

their way.  not to say we have to agree with it, or embrace it, but with knowledge comes understanding.  whether we agree with it or not, these are traditions they have grown up with and i think it's important to try to have compassion to those who only know what they know.

kind of like my puppy class. when clients complain their pups refuse to walk forward, but plant their paws and pull back, i tell them, do not force the pup to do something it fears, rather encourage the dog with something it naturally gravitates toward.  pup won't walk forward?  walk with a toy and gently toss it forward a very short distance and praise the pup as it moves forward.  before you know it, the pup looks forward to going for walks and no longer needs the toy.

How are we ever going to have any dialog with people who donot, cannot and will not understand our way of thinking?

justi - combining bel and offbeats comments reminds me of the saying -

"you can't see the forest for the trees."  as long as the girls remain immersed in their culture and habits, it will be difficult to view their lives any other way.

we've had a number of deaths in bc, parents killing the wives of their sons because of not being "pure" racially, husbands killing their wives because the women embraced western civilization freedoms for women, wanting to be recognized as individuals and not as the husband's property or servant or whatever.

some cultures have very different values and it is hard to fathom.

That is a very good point. If someone hurt my George I would be in a heap of hurt. Hurt me but not him. My hat is off to you. I truly still mourn my Mama and she was not the best mother in the world by any means but I think she did the best she could. She didn't do to me what yours did. I am sorry anyone did that to you. You have such a good heart. Be blessed.

I have said in the past that when my mother passes I will cry and mourn for the mother that I wish that she might have been.   While I do not want her in my life and will protect my child from her poisin there is still a part of me that will always mourn that mother that never was.  I suspect it is probably similar for the daughters of Saddam.

No I don't understand how they think...I know both their husbands were killed by the lunatic...It would be hard for me to collect my Dad had he done anything like that...We think so differently on this planet...It's going to be a long time before I understand their culture..it's so foreign...

There's no way of being able to relate to their way of thinking, just as there is no way from them to be able to relate to our way of thinking.  Hard to believe that Jordan gave them asylum though, huh??
