johnmcnab, the architect was Minoru Ymasaki. Japanese I think. But the
style was modern. I imagine the modern structure looked odd amid the 19th and 20th century buildings. I was glad to have seen it up close and personal the summer of 1994 when I could not get a piece of research from St. John University and had to drive there with my family to get it. I got it, and what a great memory. We drove my dad's 1975 Lincoln -- very carefully.

I saw an article two days ago with photographs of the new towers. They look strangely Oriental, and to my mind, they don't fit.
