Gome

If the U.S. fights the 'War against Christmas' with as much skill as they have conducted the War against Terror - then Jesus need not feel under too much threat.

But it's a lot of wars...

Hey Gome

as usual you show your wonderfuly refreshing class of charectar: a respect for time honored traditions based in religion, beliefs which are contrary to your personal beliefs, traditions that have a positive binding effect on our Western society that set us apart from the rest of the world.

So don your raincoat, here it comes: God bless you and yours!! And may you be kept safe and prosperous in 2007.

ariel70 - nice to hear from you again
As I mentioned in an earlier comment, I think that the few complaints we have heard about the use of the word Christmas have been registered simply because people are able to. There are some things where there is nothing gained in having them overturned. To do so simply because it is an individual's right, sometimes is not a good enough reason. I usually keep my mouth shut when invited to christenings and the like as well. Most Christmas days I find myself in 3 different churches simply because my presence there is important to others. Tolerance is a two way street.

Talion - it really is no big deal
I think the few objections that we have heard about the use of the word Christmas have been registered simply because people can. It is true that we must keep in mind that different people hold differing beliefs, for example: I would never walk up to a Jewish person and wish them a Merry Christmas but by the same token I expect this same consideration about my traditions.

Gomey

Hi! Long time no read ( unfortunately )

Well said! What the hell has it got to do with anyone, what we choose to call our festivals?

As you know, I'm a non-believer, yet I would feel that I was insulting a friend if I refused to attend his/her church for a baptism, wedding, funeral etc.

We should all just shut our traps and mind our own business.

Happy Chritmas to you too, amigo!

I don't have a problem with calling it Christmas or wishing someone a merry one. One should keep in mind that everyone doesn't celebrate this particular holiday, but under normal circumstances, it's by no means an insult or some kind of volley in the pertual "my God is better than your God" wars. Being a member of a diverse society means occasionally, sometimes frequently, enduring things that run contrary to one's personal beliefs. As long as these things don't interfere with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, it's really no big deal.
