curly quotes

Microsoft word auotmatically changes your open and close quotation marks into "smart quotes" it replaces the beginning straight quote with a printers curly open quote, and likewise the end straight quote gets changed to a printers curly close quote.

when I view your blog, each time I come upon a set of quotes I see, instead of a quote mark a strange triplet of characters.  If you the word WALGREEN'S I see it as WALGREEN’ I cut and pasted that.. do you see it as a normal WALGREEN's? or do you see WALGREEN then an "a" with a ^ on it, and E like letter that looks like greek and then the tiny TM for trademark symbol. That combinaton of ascii codes must be what Word uses to make a curly quote.

If it's only on my system (don't see why it should be) don't bother, but if you want to fix it. In Word, under "tools" click on "auto correct options" and then choose the top tab that says "AutoFormat As You Type" and make sure you UNcheck "straight quotes with "smart quotes", Ordinals (1st) with superscript, and Fractions (1/2) with fraction character. then in that same window click the top tab that says "AutoFormat" and unclick the same three I just mentioned again in this section.
That will stop Word from changing your quotes and fractions into sometimes unreadable symbols.

cynthia, these Sanctuary acts of civil disobedience are herioc in some ways, but seditious and
unAmerican in the minds of most 'group think' Americans now. They arrested nuns, old women  in an unnamed state, who were protesting the new Iraqui War at the front gates of an Air Base and who pushed too close to some line drawn in the sand. They were quietly tried and unspoken of in the town's press. New 'group think' and group acceptance' of  'group fed stories' frightens me. I shall end up in prison at ninety for something that young people should be doing and won't be.

What a great story
and one more Americans need to hear as we become known as "Paranoid Nation" instead of the "land of the free and the home of the brave."
