Right after 911 lots of countries were ready
and willing to stand by us. It was the ruthless stupidity of Cheney, Bush, Rummy and the Neocons that squandered all that good will. Now we are universally hated, even in Vermont (Vermont, along with Massachusetts may as well be al Queda sympathizers as far as the neocons are concerned)- where the Feds have taken up border patrol to new highs, they are doing random checks of US citizens far from the Canadian border, not finding a single terrorist, but they have rounded up heeps of Marijuana and the locals are not happy.

Agreed. The vision of "Mankind" changing is mindcandy.

We must strive against barbarism, but when you outstrip your natural resources and start stealing from others who have nothing to lose, then you get knocked back.

Britain had us to save them. Who will save us?

Maj, We will go the way of all Empires that over
reached. We will deplete ourselves, till we become just one of the gang again. Look at Rome, The Ottoman Empire, The British Empire, The Germans...

The military was drawn down too far from the Cold War level

if we want/need to project power. And when we project power, unless it's Granada or Panama, we don't project enough force to complete the objective, be it sensible or not. Instead of killing the bull, we just whip it into a frenzy.

As long as we are sending billions of dollars to th Middle East for oil, then trying to go and secure it by direct military means, we will suffer the same fate we get for fighting the war on drugfs while we send billions of dollars of narco money to those we wish to defeat.

Like water wrestling a midget with a life jacket on, perched upon your shoulders...and we bought them the lifer preserver.

Where will it stop?

Ariala, Montreal is a great city, I like old Quebec too
But for me, that's where my daughter and grand kids live, so it has an appeal beyond the political...

I wouldn't mind moving there anyway...not that I'd be drafted since I'm a
woman and 41, but I know people who went there and are quite happy now.
