Hmmm
  I don't know Joe Love. It's possible. On the other Carter did try a military rescue. Even though it failed, it proved he was willing to use military force.

     As I understood it, the hostages were released because Iran was fighting a war with Iraq and needed spare parts for their weapons---which no country in the west would sell them until the  hostages were released.

He is a great humanitarian..

Actually, some might consider Carter's negotiating to get the hostages back
a re-writing of history.  In actuality, the Iranians knew that Reagon would use military force to get the hostages back, and the hostages were released and coming home on Reagon's Inaugeration day, 20-minutes after Reagons' inaugural address.
