Hi, gomedome,
As usual, you post some thought-provoking words, here. I enjoy reading you, and you always express yourself in an intelligent, civilized, if controversial, manner. I believe that this post and many of thoughts you express here are right on target, but that's just my opinion. Thanks. :)

Actually, if I have something that good to say, and somebody happens to quote me carelessly, I don't really mind all that much, since most of my stuff is for the benefit of the readers anyway.

MandaLee - I know that of you - that is one of your utmost qualities
Dare I say your perspective on differing religious opinions makes you a "true Christian" . . . or at the very least; someone in my mind that understands and tries to live the core message of their beliefs.

Hi Gomedome, Although we have different beliefs and disagree, I
fully respect your freedom to express your views and beliefs. It has always been my intention to converse with you and disagree in a respectful way that never criticized you personally.
Please know that I will never treat you with any hurtfulness or disrespect.

Bhaskar.ing - thank you - I am here on Blogit for the same reasons
. . . at least that is what I like to tell myself.
The reality of why I am here and how I end up spending my time here sometimes become 2 different things. I've always had a combative nature, so when challenged, I instinctively pick up the gauntlet. I do try however to be cognizant of the fact that what I find entertaining in jousting with those who attempt to debate by discrediting the author, others find abhorrent, even upsetting.
We had a plagiarist a few months back and the disparity between previous posts and comments versus the copied work were as you say. As soon as the individual's articulation, diction and general use of grammar improved 20 fold, we were all suspicious. It didn't take much to expose the individual, Google searches of some of the phrases clipped from his bogus posts took us directly to the web sites where the material was copied from. Sadly he attempted to defend his position, suggesting that he had a right to use the word of God as God wanted him to, . . . presumably despite copyright issues.

Hi gomedome
I quite liked the one you say on plagiarism. Firstly, the proof of it is found in the differences in one's style of writing a post, and the way of his writing a comment. One can then easily make out that the originality is a fake one. The second test is when opinions differ, then one starts abusing instead of defending. How can he? It's not his own, nor does he know anything about it, and the fear of getting exposed. I come here for quite a different purpose - honing my writing skills, to learn, enjoy other people's thinking and opinion, study their natures, share what I can positively contribute, so long as it gives me happiness. Leave it or take it, I never mix my Blogit life with my personal life.
I find your blog quite thought-provoking, unlike many others that base their writings on established dogmatic beliefs. I leave such blogs uncommented for fear of reaching nowhere but simply wasting my time and energy in pointless arguments.

MoonSpirit - as per usual, you are too kind
The name change is done but it was hardly a favor, if I had of been a little more on the ball I would have taken care of it without prompting. . . . I know what you mean about not seeing an opportunity to add a comment or not being inspired with something you feel is worthy of comment. I try to adhere to that as a personal policy in that I don't comment unless I feel I am adding something but I think we have talked about this before?

Hello Gomedome, I've been sort of 'back' for a day or three now and, of course, I have been reading you. But, as you probably know, just because I read, doesn't mean that I have anything of value to say. And while I do not always follow this injunction, when I feel that I have nothing of value to contribute, I may just read silently - as I have been doing with you. With Blogit, unfortunately, if you read silently....well.....there are any number of results that follow. Anyway, as you know, I am.....hmmm.....shall we say.....hmmm.....a 'fan' of yours. This does not qualify me to ask any favors but, nevertheless (can you smell the asking of a favor coming) I would ask a small one. I really, really, really enjoy being one of your little furry bloggers rising to 'Heaven'.....however, when we first connected, I was operating under a different 'incarnation', i.e., Samhain_Moon......would you grant me the boon of rising to Heaven under my current moniker. Lest there be any charges of 'misrepresentation' or 'deception', I have no idea how long I will be reading.....BUT, I can't seem to sever myself from this place permanently. 'Blessings', MoonSpirit

Schatz - that does have a lot to do with some people's reactions, I'm sure
The thing about the religious crazies I often depict is that the vast majority are real people doing real things. (insane things) The remainder are composite characters derived from real people. Sister Neverhadaman and Sister Noguyforme are not; as you might have guessed their real names, they are composites of several different nuns. I also try to mix up my themes and subject matter. Where we cannot get away from discussing Christian religions in this part of the world when we do discuss religion, I also try to at least include some of the other religions when possible.
Your description of being on the roster, name on the check etc. is bang on. Coercion, societal pressures and ostracism are very real towards outsiders from a religion that self proclaims it is based on loving thy neighbour. Somewhere along the line, the inherent ability to determine right from wrong was lost by many of these religious folks. The train that never ran properly to begin with is off the tracks now but too many people are proposing more of the same as a solution. The Foley scandal underlines for us how deeply entrenched these unworkable mind sets really are.

I've only 'gotten into it' a couple of times in the 3 years I've blogged.
Only one has ended in really fighting. I just don't read the people whose attitudes, in my opinion, suck. I hope people do likewise with me. If you don't like what I have to say the majority of the time you come to my page, then by all means, stop coming.
I think a lot of it with you is that they see it as you slandering them because they see themselves in your writing. You are usually writing in a vague way about lunatics and weirdos. LOL. I guess if you find your likeness in there, then you really shouldn't leave a comment saying so....
If the shoe fits, wear it.
As a side note, did you hear the recent development with Foley? The Ethics Panel decided that although his fellow politicians knew that he was sending sexually explicit emails to minors, no one broke any rule by not doing anything about it. GREAT. Just the kind of 'leaders' we need. But we're the heathens because we don't go to church. This is what baffles me the most. These are the religious role models we see, and yet we aren't supposed to scoff at them.
And I am not saying that they are representatives of their entire religion, so much as I am that the people they worship with accept them, even knowing this stuff is going on, and they say that it's because they're forgiving and accepting as part of their doctrine. But they accuse non-Christians who do the same things, usually sans lies, of being bad people. So basically what it says to me is if you join our club, you get off scott free. You just have to be one of us to be ok. It's not about how you live, or what you do or don't do, as long as your name is on the roster....and on the check. Urgh.

TVBlogger - I found most of it funny but some of it a little sad
I would like to think that I'm not overly immature for my age so when accused of petty and immature behaviour, I wonder where the accusations come from? I've never asked anyone, ever, to step into a debate to back me up. It is my hope that if I do not have a solid enough contention to advance myself; that I will not find myself in the debate in the first place. Having said this and being fully cognizant of the fact that most humans do not like to admit when they are wrong, I have no fear of losing a debate, if I'm wrong on a point and it is proven as wrong, so be it. Just recently I have had to come back to a discussion in my own comments, a little red faced to say "oops". In my mind, developing this ability is a sign of maturity, as is the discipline to leave it all alone when other more important considerations are being overlooked. As an example of the types of things I am speaking of; I have found myself writing as much as 2,000+ words a day in back and forth dialogue with just one person. And all of these words in a debate that was rehashing the same old things over and over again. How foolish would I be to let this practice, once realized, monopolize my time any further?

After your post yesterday
I had to go in search of this post and I was pretty sure I knew who it was... I was right. I was fascinated to learn I have been asked to jump in when you are in fear of losing your debate. Huh... that was news to me. I imagine it was news to anyone who ever posts a comment here. See this is the thing people don't seem to get... don't lie or exaggerate because you will easily be found out and look a fool which then casts doubt on every other statement you make. Noise... they're just making noise.

Talion - I like the analogy you finished off with - I too would find it
insulting if someone ever asked me to participate in such a thing.
So far, no one has included me in their attempts to subvert another blogger's postings . . . but can you imagine how insulting being accused of organizing it is?

Reading everything posted here is impossible even if I wanted to. We have no choice but to be selective in what we view. There are plenty of blogs I don't read frequently, if at all, for a variety of reasons, but I don't consider that "boycotting." It's exercising my right to choose. I'd never organize or voluntarily participate in a boycott of someone here. In fact, I'd be insulted if someone asked. As an adult, I'm fully capable of determining what I should and should not read. I don't need anyone else's help in these matters. I abhor the mob mentality and do my best never to become one of those angry, torch-bearing villagers marching to slay the "monster."

SuccessWarrior - I've noticed that as well
In any internet community there will be a few folks that don't quite understand all that is involved in a public forum. Some are ill equipped to participate, either as a result of their false expectations or their inability to afford the same rights to others that they demand.

A boycott of blogs? Lovely. Hope it goes well for them until they quit.
I've noticed that a lot of people like that end up dropping out of Blogit while the rest of us keep on going.
