Fidelity is the Key

I can't imagine sharing a lover under any circumstances. There is a bond, a soul tie even, that is created when lovers commit themselves to each other. When I really love someone, I don't want to see them to be involved with another person on any level. Granted, men and women have platonic relationships that are healthy. I don't think these relationships should be marred by crossing any boundaries. Now, physical infidelity is not the only case of infidelity that wounds deeply and shatters the vase. Emotional infidelity, the non- physical infidelity, is probably worse than physical infidelity. As an emotional aware person, I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that my man is still in love with another woman although he's with me and not with her.

Parnell, your point woould be valid if we did not have expectations regarding infidelity. But I expect my lover to be faithful under all circumstances as I am faithful. If my partner feels the need to se someone else, I should be the first to know. I don't believe in holding people back from what they really want. Usually, there's no coming back to me if my partner makes this kind of decision.

Maybe infidelity only feels wrong because we're constantly being told that a monogamous relationship is one of the benchmarks of success. But perhaps it isn't. Perhaps with a little bit of tolerance we could actually allow our partners a bit more space and freedom in their lives.

If there was no expectation of absolute physical fidelity, then the vase doesn't have to be shattered everytime a person has an affair...
