A hefty percentage is indeed medical, and in a way, even though it's unavoidable, it can be planned for. I've known I had kidney disease since I was 17, meaning there was plenty of time to make financial plans without having to resort to assistance. I'm a financial conservative, and I feel it's all too easy to do that - lean on the assistance programs, which are difficult to access because those who administer such programs are intent on preventing fraud.

Errrr, I don't know -- I'd say most of your debt (assuming the bulk is
medical) was unplanned/unavoidable. Surely you would qualify for some assistance? I trust you are able to get some help.
