Why in the world did you let her take up playing the clarinet (in the bad, I'm sure). Out of ALLLLLL the instruments, I would have to agree with you, it is probably most annoying! Pooooor you.

I am sure you are right but first the one playing must love it and she does not love it at all LOL!

Bel -
Nothin' better then Benny Goodman playing "Ain't Misbehavin'". In the hands of a master, the clarinet can be amazing.

I truly hope so. Granted, I am biased but he is pretty good and it always made him happy.

Don't worry; he'll get back to it.
Life has a way of making you need your music.

I can't wait for the guitar!!!! My stepson from my previous marriage took it up and loved it. He still plays in some of local places from time to time. But with a wife and child he doesn't have as much time anymore.

When I joined the middle school band, my dad was adamant:
"Hell no; there will be no drums in the house!"
So I took up the saxophone...buwahahahahahahaha....
You're right. Few things are worse than a kid learning a squeaky reed instrument like a clarinet. The only thing worse I could think of would maybe be bagpipes.
I think dad was actually relieved when I took up the electric guitar.

LOL Maggie
It appears we aren't going much of anywhere either. I went out to the car and discovered my locks frozen and my windows covered in ice. If I have that on my windows I don't even want to find out whats on the roads and I haven't seen the salt trucks yet.

bel, I'm not going out today - I don't like that weather either.
I have a piano I bought with the hopes that one day one of my grandchildren would play it. One plays the sax, another wants to play the trumpet (uh oh), the a third, the guitar. I'm really looking forward to a weekend with all three of them here. lol

I'd definitely try to steer her to guitar, I'd love to learn guitar and I
may yet. Marco the jazz guitarist, I've been writing about for 2 years at the coffee shop, gives lessons. As soon as I get a job, I'm taking lessons.

I like the sax. Pam hates the clarinet but I told her when we signed her up that if she started the year she would finish the year. She hates the sound almost as much as I do LOL! She wanted so bad to play an instrument that she accepted it when the teacher told her to play the clarinet. She has since discovered someone will teach her to play the guitar. What she really wants is piano so Santa might look into a keyboard for Christmas.
As for the weather....you just keep those winds right there!

bel, your lousy weather is headed our way. We're to have 60-miles and hour winds today with rain changing to snow. Thanks a lot. lol
My granddaughter is 12, she plays sax and sings in the choir, so she always needs black pants and white blouse for concerts. One set doesn't seem to last from one concert to the next. She outgrows them. Please don't tell her that you don't like the sound of her clarinet. Love it, love it,love it - encourage her to play. No sax or clarinet is going to sound good at this stage. Buy some ear plugs, bel.

Naut
I doubt she will ever get that far. She doesn't care for the instrument at all and while she will be following through with it for the year in school it will be returned at the end of the school year as she wants to learn to play the guitar. Luckily we have a friend who is willing to teach her and loan her a guitar...it will cost much less than the clainet that has cost me over 80.00 in replacement parts since September.

I failed miserably at clarinet lessons, Bel, it sounded like a flock of
geese flying south for the winter. Not a pretty sound, I feel your pain.

when attached to the lips of a master, the clarinet can be beautiful, like a coloratura soprano. Treat yourself to a Mozart clarinet concerto, or some Benny Goodman, and I'm sure you'll like it! And some day Pam may master that instrument as well...
