In my opinion, it
would be different if people took the day off voluntarily rather than being forced to take the day off because it's a federal holiday.

I know there would be a huge public outcry over this issue, but I'm in favor of taking Christmas off the roster of federal holidays. Sure, a lot of people would take the day off, anyway, and a lot of people would protest this, but Christmas is too explicitly Christian. If I can get Christmas off, then Jews should be allowed Hanukkah off, and everyone else should have their religious holidays declared federal holidays.
