Absolutely, AbsolutelyPositive. I did the same thing when I moved from a very large house to a one bedroom apartment. It felt so good even though I took way too much with me then. After two more moves, I disposed of much more but somehow whatever space I have, it fills up without me intending for that to happen.

possessions
I went through this after owning my condo for 20 years I had to sell it to save my financial sanity. I was way overhead in Mortgage payments and association fees I finally bailed out and I wish I did it when I was younger. But now I have to move again after just four short months because the people want to sell this house. We have found another place and it will be ready to move in on Fri the first. Now its the packing all over again.

Good luck on your move

clutter-clearing has always been a good thing for me. we do become too
attached to objects and forget the real things that should be cherished, moments in time that rest in our hearts and can never be lost or stolen.

I did this same thing last year...culled out and kept only
Those things that were irreplaceable. It was very free-ing. I'm sure you'll feel a thousand pounds lighter...LOL!
Be sure to get your tax receipts....you can get alot back on those donations when you do your taxes (provided you're an American...LOL...not sure)

Absolutely
I have "down-sized" 3 times over the past 6 years and although I experienced some pangs as I held a cherished item in my hand it was very cathartic to release it, give it away, or sell it. I wouldn't say I'm down to the bare bones but if someone asked me to write a list of
all my possessions, I could probably do it. Most people have far too much "stuff".

AbsolutelyPositive, it can be wonderfully liberating. I was just listening
to Tom Hartman, a radio host I like, about Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Here in America, the common misperception is that 50 times the stuff will make you 50 times happier. Beyond the basic needs of food, shelter, warmth, touch, etc. there is no logistical incremental increase. The real happiness is internal.

I wish I could clear out my clutter
I have done some and donated to the Sally Army or posted on our local Freecycle, but there's always more dives right on in to take it's place. I really need to follow your example and start going through stuff ... if it's been boxed up or hidden away for years it's obviously not something I'm in dire need of, is it?
Happy Thanksgiving

wow--
I did something similar a few months ago, I found new homes for about 85% of everything I had to facilitate moving to a new state. I can honestly say it has been a little rough--I know they are just "things" but I miss their familiarity. I looked at my rocker for 25 years, and now I don't...that kind of thing. But when you do this, I hope you will write about it, what the journey is for you and how it feels to be without ALL of your "stuff." Blessings to you.
