Don't have the time for that, since I have a family to take care. We be screwed if I took off for 40 days.
Then there is the fact that meditation does not work for me. I actually get more stressed when I try to do relaxing exercises. All those relaxation tapes drive me crazy. I get more relaxed by reading, writing, gaming or playing with my boys. Even doing some kind of active work helps me be more relaxed.
My mother is somewhat the same way. At the Museum and Science and History out here they have the 'Hall of Life' and one of the things is stress meter. Both my mother and I showed more stress when they played the relaxation music than when they played the sounds of the city.

Kooka Lives, try going out into the desert for 40 days and 40 nights.
Being silent in meditation helps to clear the mind and still the chatter so you can hear.

No.
First off that would still back up the idea that God only talks to those who he favors. If he is all-powerful, then he should be able to get everyone to hear him. I know my boys can get people to hear them, no matter how hard those people try to not listen to them.
Second, I do not walk around trying to not hear God. I actually do listen and am open to hearing God if there is such a thing out there. I just am not going to force it nor am I prone to hear what I want to hear in order to justify my beliefs. I hear what is right there out in the open for all to hear. If I do not hear God, then I must assume that there is nothing to hear and all those who dos such are hearing what they wish to hear.

Ever think that we don't hear God because we're not listening!?
