It is indeed scary, when you realise what it's about.
It could almost just be someone in their bedroom at night, with their own internal fears, but if it's about people who are literally in the firing line and most of their comrades are asleep, then yes, a most unpleasant situation to be in, brought home to us very effectively.

To sit in a fixed, known position, awaiting the initiative of the enemy is terrifying. In Iraq, it not so much the creep and rush scenario, as the IEDs (improvised explosive devices, most commonly set off by cell phones and garage door openers) that one must wait for.
