I stopped smoking when I came here, Whacky, but even now, when I pass those groups huddled outside in the cold, I have cravings.

Whacky--- Smokers are addicts, pure and simple. As a society, we have
a serious problem with them because we try to deal with them as rational people Addicts are not rational people, especially when it comes to their addiction. They don't care who is harmed (including babies) as long as they get their fix. And they're always find ways to rationalize why they should be allowed to continue subjecting the rest of us to their toxic smoke. By the way, my father was an addict. It killed him.

I never smoked either, Whacky. My mother and father did. My brother and

i grew up with parents who chain-smoked. when riding in the car, i

would become physically ill and start crying.  they would yell at me for crying.  as i entered my teens, i and my sisters all started smoking.  it took many years but we all stopped, my dad after his second heart attack, my mom prior to dad's second heart attack, myself the night i thought i was going to have a heart attack.

yeah, it would have been great if my parents hadn't smoked in the first place.  glad we all made it to a smoke-free world.  and vancouver is leading all the greatest cities with its extremely strict smoking laws, people bitched and complained like mad at first but now, oh, it's heaven.  you go to a nightclub to see a band and you can actually see the band!

Probably  the dumbest thing I have done in my life was to  take up smoking. It will be outlawed soon and at least I'll  know what I died from

Whackydotter!!

lol I luv ya, really. This is priceless.

'One time when I passed, there was a woman holding newborn baby and blowing smoke in its face. It was the sweetest little thing I have ever seen.'

Loved reading about your dad, I finally quit just over 3 years ago, and you are soooooo right.

I found it much easier to quit drinking and chasing wild women than to quit smoking luv.-;)Blah

I hate to see people wait until a doctor tells them they have to quit
Doesn't it seem like they'd have enough  COMMON SENSE to just realize how unhealthy it is and quit on their own?

Whacky...
Great post.  It is very difficult to quit smoking.  A cigarette never touched my mouth until I was 16 years old.  My cousin and I were out in the woods, she was a smoker and I smoked a cigarette.  After that day I smoked for several years, but before I would allow myself to become pregnant another time, I was determined to quit smoking.  I cried, I prayed, I ate things I don't particularly like and I actually suffered withdrawal with my gums aching, especially at night, from the yearning to smoke. I did not over come the nasty habit by myself, I was successful only with God's power.  After the birth of my last child, I again started smoking after quitting for 10 years of being a nonsmoker.  When asked why I started again, all I can say is cuz I wanted to.  I could blame it on losing my father, the extreme pressures I was at that time facing, but the bottom dollar is I made the conscious decision to again smoke.  At this point I know I should not smoke, but to quit smoking it has to be a total commitment to give it up and I am not there yet.

Whacky, Ontario is almost a smoke free province at this point
not everyone likes it, but oh well...I have never smoked a day in my life (sure I lit up but I didnt inhale...), but still have a respiratory problem in part caused by "secondary smoke"....

They passed the law in Ohio that you can't smoke in public buildings where people are working. Now that hurt the bars because lets face it, people who drink tend to smoke. Also non smokers don't go to the bars to eat..especially when there is no food service. So I was going to write a post about this later but this last week I have seen more bars turn into private clubs thus getting around the law. Having owned a pub that did not provide food service I can almost understand why they are doing it...plus I paid over 5 thousand for that kick butt smoke eater...lol There were times even in the bitter winter months I had to open the door because it darn near killed me when I was in the place. When I came home from there I had to strip in the hallway and take a shower and wash my hair every night because of the smoke stink. Sometimes I would be so tired I would just put on my shower cap and sleep in it. I think smoking around a baby should be considered a crime...

Whacky, Thanks, I really needed to hear this tonight. I appreciate it.
Smoking does irreversible damage, unless we quit.
