SW, how about the Church of the Open Divinity.
Ah, no, that would shorten to COD wouldn't it.
So definitely steer clear of the Church of Righteous Ascension Project.
You see, by Thursdays I've lost it. Yes, do catch me on Wednesday.
It's quite worrying that other people are starting to think like me, I agree.

faholo, we could even have use the "here's the church, here's the people"
hand game as part of our ceremony.

Sannhet, actually Dave thought of it
I'm kind of sorry for you that you think like Dave. Have you thought about counseling?

Success -
I was going to offer up the Non-prophet church, but you already thought of it.

God is Free: A Non-Prophet Church
I like it. I like the beauty of naming it as Free and then taking the money. Most people wouldn't even get it.

SuccessWarrior - judging by how some of these outfits seem to work,
I think you are supposed to emphasize a set of ideals while living in a completely opposite manner.
I would reccomend something hippyish like: God Is Free . . . emphasizing that God is for everyone and that money is not the issue or even necessary to praise and worship God . . . then you soak them for every penny that you can, all the while masking your real intentions by insisting that the money is only needed to insure the distribution of such a worthy message. . . . speaking of ulterior motives and hidden agendas....you could start your new church online until you can put up a tent or rent a building . . . you'll need a good domain name for that: Godisfree.com . . . hallelujah.

I could go with the cross but I'd have to do some education
Most people think it's a Christian symbol. I'll have to give some thought to what my logo will be.
I'll try to have it worked out by next Wednesday so you can give it your best thought.

SW, if you add some more requirements to the image you'd like to project,
I'll give it some serious thought. For instance, would the cross icon be important. Tell me more. You said you wanted to keep it fairly vague, but if you want that 'broad church' feel, then perhaps it needs to be honed a little or else your prospective flock will stick to what they know.

Unfortunately, Success....
you're absolutely right - they
don't practice what they preach. BTW, I like something with the words "non-prophet" in it.

SW, I should have read your headline more carefully...
It does say "Good bloggers of Blogit..."
I think I better go before I get into trouble.

How about: The Non-Prophet Organisation
That's quite good and not too silly. I'll be back with a silly one in a minute.

Ben, but don't you find that it's common for religious leaders
to preach about that stuff while they're off doing their own thing?

You're right not to want to go that route
Unfortunately, once a church gets to be the size of a New Life Church, if the pastor has as much power as Haggard had, it's too easy to believe you're God yourself. Just continue to emphasize personal responsibility and doing the right thing, and you'll do fine.
