- Go to DESIGNER DOGS?
In that case, Whacky, we have a designer dog as well. Samantha came straight from the pound and she is a mixture of at least three breeds, so it must have been some party.

symphony - if you do go to the shelter, be prepared to have your heart
stolen and a new member to join your family. there are some fantastic dogs and cats waiting for love and for sure, one of them has your name ringing in their heart.

He's so cute!
Does this mean that if you and your spouse are two different nationalities/religions/races that you are making designer kids?

Bo...
You're pretty cute alright. Another advantage of shelter dogs is they are designer, but they are also diversity dogs, meaning the designer was chance. Now what could be better than that? Ok Bo, now go make some land mines for Whacky to pick up!

I never understood the need to have a purebred animal--
unless you were going to show them (and I don't even really understand the desire to do THAT!). If only more people would adopt from animal shelters instead of buy from breeders and pet stores,(both dogs and cats), so many lives would be saved. It's sad really. Designer dogs are just another example of technology giving us something no one needs.

Cute Bo
Buying dogs is crazy. Some dogs go for 1200 dollars. It's insane when you can go rescue one that is just as good if not better. I think these DESIGNER DOGS are just an excuse to pay more for a so called "mutt". Crazy go buy a dog from your local shelter or SPCA, people. Good thoughts Whacky.

Whacky, Just last night we were watching the TV program about the designer dogs. We cracked up laughing when they sad Labradoodle. Mark loves dogs but he said he couldn't have one of those because everyone would be asking him what it was and he would be ashamed to say the word. HAHAHA

Rhodesian Ridgeback and I could ask for no better dog.

i, too, would go with adoption but as ridiculous as this whole "designer
dog" industry is, i'm thrilled it happened because the inbreeding and health issues that were arising from mankind insisting on a "purebred" was wreaking havoc. outside of the fact, there is no such thing as a purebred because all breeds are designs created by man over the millenium through purposeful cross-breeding in order to attain certain aspects to each breed, hunting skills, protection, etc.
today, the desires go toward the "pocket pooch". good points, most are allergy-free (thanks to the poodle crossings) and they make good city pets because of the size. bad points - people don't recognize that their pets are DOGS nonetheless and still need to be treated as such. the constant coddling and fashion shows do the dogs no favors.

I'd definitely adopt a dog. Firstly because most of the animals from shelters are either strays or they're abandoned or abused and neglected by their previous owners.
What disturbs me most about this new cross-breeding trend in dogs is that it really is extremely dangerous to the animals. More times than not, the puppies are born with health defects and have to be destroyed. Even the adult dogs can have serious medical issues when cross-breeding takes place.
I too hate people who decide to have a pet simply to accessorise their lives. That makes me nuts!!!! Animals deserve as much (if not more) respect as we human beings.
Two of my cats were strays, and I wouldn't have gotten them from a pet store for anything in the world. Did you get Bo from a shelter?
God bless you both. Give Bo a pet for me!!
